Blow out a virtual
birthday candle

Make a wish, then actually blow. Your phone's mic hears it and the flames go out. Put their name on the cake and send them the link so they can blow out their own, wherever they are.

How the candles work

Common questions

How do you blow out a virtual candle?

Tap 'Blow them out', allow the microphone, and blow at your phone or laptop like it's a real cake. A steady blow for about a quarter of a second puts the candles out. Talking or a single cough won't. If you'd rather not use the mic, tap the candles instead.

Is the microphone recording me?

No. The page only measures how loud the sound is, right in your browser, to tell when you're blowing. Nothing is recorded, saved or uploaded, and the mic turns off as soon as the candles go out or you leave the page.

How do I send virtual birthday candles to someone?

Type their name, set the age, and tap 'Send these candles'. You get a link to text or post anywhere. When they open it, the cake is lit with their name on it and they get to blow out the candles themselves.

Is it free?

Yes, completely. No account, no app, no watermark. The candles are a free toy. If you want to put the cake inside a full birthday card with your message, photos and GIFs, that's what Birthdaypage is for, and the cake there is part of Birthday Boost.

Does it work on iPhone?

Yes, in Safari and Chrome on iPhone and Android, and in desktop browsers with a microphone. If the mic isn't available or you say no to the permission prompt, tapping the candles works everywhere.

How many candles can the cake have?

The age goes up to 120 and is written on the cake, but it shows at most eight candles so they're always blowable in one breath. Nobody wants to blow out 40 candles on a phone.

Can we blow out candles together on a video call?

Yes. Send the link before the call, everyone opens it, sing, and the birthday person blows into their own phone. It works better than holding a real cake up to a webcam.
